Snow/Mize Conquer biggest field in years at Pine Flat Lake

The Big Valley Region held its 2nd Tournament of the season at Pine Flat Lake on February 4th. Weather was great and fishing was fairly good with most of the quality fish being caught on Brown Jigs with a variety of plastic trailers and 6” worms in 25 – 45 feet of water. There were 54 teams at morning check in and exactly half the field, 27 Teams, weighed in 5 fish limits.

1st Place was won by the Team of Jim Snow of Dinuba and James Mize of Squaw Valley. They also had big fish of the tournament, an incredible Spotted Bass weighing 7.67 lbs that anchored a total weight for 5 fish of 14.44 lbs. At the awards they talked about running the entire lake, catching the better fish in the river but most of their other fish came on main lake structure fishing brown Jigs. The reward this day was a record setting $4512, believed to be the largest check ever presented to the winners of a regularly scheduled team trail event in the valley region.

Finishing in second place were Kirk Sakamoto and Keith Friesen of Dinuba. With a total weight of 12.61 lbs for their 5 fish they just couldn’t overcome the monster the winners brought to the scales. Sakamoto told us after the tournament they caught all their fish on jigs and worms, but never left the main body of the lake. They also received a really nice check for their efforts, winning a total of $2345.

3rd Place was won by Harry Boudakian of Visalia and Pete Rodriguez of Woodlake. Their limit of really nice 2.5 lb spots came to the scales and topped out at 12.58 lbs. During the weigh in Boudakian said they caught all of this day’s fish running the lake and concentrating on area with schooled fish they found in practice. They took home$1335, not bad for day of fishing.

Forth place went to Ron Red Jr and Sr with a total weight of 11.72 lbs. They took home $1005 while the Fifth place check of $720 went to Matt Davidian and Vince Bryan.

Congratulation to everyone for a great day and we look forward to seeing another great field at Millerton Lake on March 4th.
