FPT Central Valley anglers prepare for Pine Flat spots

If you ask anglers in the know, you will hear that Pine Flat reservoir is the place to be if your’e looking for BIG spotted bass. In fact, the lake boasts of so many big “spots” that many people don’t even react when five pound plus spots are caught.

And angler’s fishing the Future Pro Tour’s central valley region certainly hope that the legends and lore many speak of regarding this lake comes true as they get ready to compete in the 3rd event of the season on this beautiful mother lode lake Saturday, May 6th.

Ryan and Larry Accardo who currently lead the angler of the year race in the central division have high hopes of doing well and opening up a big lead that will be hard for other competitors to follow.

“We love Pine Flat at this time of year”, noted Ryan in a quiet but confident tone. We are hoping to find some fish on beds, but with the water dropping as fast as it has been that pattern could go either way”, he added. We are just going to go out and do the best we can”.

And Ryan and Larry have plenty to be concerned about. Right on their heels is the Team of Bobby Tilford and Dana McGriff, members of the “Small Change” bass club in Fresno. Bobby is an accomplished bed fisherman who recently scored a 6th place finish in the FPT’s northern region, landing a 10.34 lb bed fish that many overlooked or simply couldn’t get to bite. “We have many areas on the lake were we can look for bed fish”, commented Bobby. And if that doesn’t work we’ll get em’ on reaction baits”! We want that Angler of the Year title bad!

And well they should, in addition to the limited sponsorships offered to Future Pro Tour Angler of the Year winners, is a cash prize payout of up to $2,000! The central valley region anglers are also competing for their share of berths in the 2006 Future Pro Tour Classic to be held November 4-5 at beautiful Clearlake. At stake is a fully rigged Ranger 185vs with Evinrude 150hp outboard, Minnkota and Humminbird electronics, and Centennial Batteries valued at over $30,000.

A pre-registration seminar will be held the evening before the event at Valley Rod and Gun in Clovis (559-292-3474) from 4-7pm. Come on down and get tips from several pros on how to catch em’ on Pine Flat in the spring. You can also sign up the morning of the event at Doyle’s Bait and tackle (559-787-2387) just a few minutes from the lake between 4 and 6am.
