Individuals and teams from eight states were greeted with sweltering heat and a tough bite on day 1 of the TBF Western Divisional at Idaho's Lake Lowell, and the weights suffered. John Albidrez of California bagged 14.10 pounds and currently leads the overall standings.
Albidrez whacked the big fish of the day, a 3-06, to help him finish the day in 1st.
Bubba O'Neil of Wyoming is currently 2nd with 13.15 pounds and Samuel Russell of Utah finished the day in 3rd with 12.13 pounds. Ryan Krost of California weighed a total of 12.08 pounds for 4th, and Bill Golightly and Rebecca Golightly of Wyoming are tied for 5th with 12.07 pounds each.
In the state competition, the California ended the day on top of the standings with a total of 126.10 pounds.
Washington's close behind in 2nd place with 126.09 and Oregon's 3rd with 125.04 pounds.
BassFan Angler
BassFan's Troy Corum, a non-boater from Oregon, ended the day with four fish and a total of 10.01.
"It went good for me today," he said. "It was a tough bite, but I stuck with it. I got all four of my keepers after 1:00."
He fished the grass flats and caught all of his fish on the same bait.
"I concentrated more on the outside grass flats, not so much the inside flats, in about 4 feet of water."
Tomorrow he plans to stick with the same strategy during the afternoon, but change his approach a bit in the morning.
"In the morning I'm going to get into the grass, but I think I'll slow down a little more."
