WON BASS Northern Region Opener hits Shasta on Jan 6-7th

The WON BASS tour will be making the first stop of the northern season this January 6-7th at Lake Shasta. Known for its strong spotted bass bite, the weather at Shasta should challenge the angling field as rain and snow will be likely companions during tournament hours.

Last year’s Shasta Open champion, Jeff Michels of Redding took home $27,600 in cash on the back of a two-day, 33.81 pound weight that included a couple of 5 pound spots. Jeff caught the bulk of his fish off main points on swimbaits.

At stake in this year’s tournament is a guaranteed $20,000 cash prize going to the first place pro angler. In addition, $3,000 in Ranger Cup money is up for grabs to pros enrolled in the Ranger Cup Program. There is an additional $500 in MotorGuide contingency money available for pros fishing with MotorGuide Trolling Motors. Options for Big Stringer and High Roller are also available for those who wish to participate.

Anglers will also be accumulating points towards the Northern angler of the year point race and ultimately qualifying for the Western Classic. Points will also be accruing for the Daiwa and Mercury cup point races.

Tournament headquarters for the event will be the Ramada Limited on Twin View Blvd in Redding. Special WON BASS rates are offered for competitors and reservations may be secured by calling (530) 246-2222. Bridge Bay Resort will be the launch and weigh-in site.

This year’s Shasta Open is scheduled just one week prior to the Stren series season opener on the same body of water. As such, the WON BASS event offers the perfect pre-fish opportunity for fishermen who want to get tuned up for the Stren Series.

Deadline to enter the event is Tuesday, January 2nd. Anglers may print out and entry form on line at www.wonbass.com or you may call WON BASS coordinator Bonnie Froehlich at (949) 366-0030 ext 38 to enter by phone.
