MINNEAPOLIS (Feb. 27, 2007) — FLW Outdoors announced today Paducah, Ky., native Dan Morehead will represent Lawry’s as the captain of its professional angling team. Lawry’s, which has been a faithful sponsor of FLW Outdoors since 2003, also announced an extension of their sponsorship agreement.
Per the extension, Lawry’s will sponsor all eight freshwater tournament trails administered by FLW Outdoors.
In 2007, Morehead will fish as a pro on the Wal-Mart FLW Tour and the Wal-Mart FLW Series BP Eastern Division, as well as a handful of events on his home waters of Kentucky and Barkley Lakes. Morehead is one of the premier players in the sport, with more than $700,000 in career earnings with FLW Outdoors alone. More importantly, the 13-year veteran has won nine tournaments as well as the prestigious Land O’Lakes Angler of the Year award, given to the tour’s best and most consistent angler. For 2007, Morehead said his main emphasis is on winning the $2 million Forrest Wood Cup.
“We had a meeting recently, and I instantly hit it off with them,” Morehead said of his new sponsorship with Lawry’s. “It’s going to work perfectly. I’m excited, I feel like I have a new lease on life.”
Morehead said his main task as team captain is to promote the Lawry’s brand.
“In addition to fishing, we’re going to be doing a lot of cross-promoting with the hunting segment as well. As most people probably know, I live for bowhunting whitetail deer, so I’m real excited about that. I really think the sky is the limit.”
Morehead can be seen on the water in his new Lawry’s-wrapped Ranger boat and Evinrude outboard.
