Blevins/Wood Still Think it’s Time for a Spawn, With Huge Bag of Fish at the Delta

While most anglers think the spawn is the only time to catch big bags of Bass, this month 100% BASS’s Delta Region fisherman have taken this idea and blown it up. 2 teams came in with 5 fish limits over 30 pounds and have set a new standard for post spawn fishing in May. There are many things changing right now on the Delta and with a 10 – 15 MPH wind, it only made things more difficult. This didn’t seam to bother most teams as they simply put a little more weight on their lures and continued to Flip. Black and Blue anything seamed to work as many teams reported using Jigs, Senko, Sweat Beavers, and even Chatterbaits. The one think they all had in common was Black and Blue.

The best pattern of the day was Black and blue Jigs for our Champions Rodney Blevins of Oakley and James Wood of Brentwood. These guys came in with 5 fish that tipped the scales at 33.28 pounds giving them a victory by over 3 pounds. With an anchor fish if 7.19 pounds, it goes to show what an incredible bag of fish this was. Blevins told us at the awards, they both Flipped all day and never put the Black/Blue Jig down. They key was staying in the current while moving around the Franks Tract Area and not staying in any one place to long. “We had a decent bag of fish, and then rolled up on one spot at 9 am and flipped two 7 pound bass in minutes and then we new we were close” said Blevins. Twenty minutes later, another 7 pound bite and they thought they had a real chance of winning. These are the days, dreams are made of, and their dream came true as we awarded them 1st place trophies sponsored by the Hook, Line and Sinker and a check in the amount of $5665. Congratulations for a great day of fish and allowing us to be part of your dream.

Second place went to one of the truly great fisherman to come from Northern California. Mike Reynolds of Modesto, a 5 time Bass Master Classic Qualifier fished with Bill Donaleki of Bob’s Marine. These two have been friends and partners for many years, but only get to fish when Mike is in town. They worked pretty well together on this day, as they had 5 fish totaling 30.07 pounds and included the CYTOMAX Big Fish of the day, a monster, 9.19 pound bass. Mike told us they also fished in the Franks Tract area and their lure of choice was a Black and Blue Senko or Sweet Beaver. “Bill flipped a Senko in and the fight was on” said Reynolds about Bill’s big fish. “He did a great job, as this fish was hot”. Mike took the time to thank sponsors Dodge Trucks, Champion Boats, Mercury Outboards, St Croix Rods, and of course, Bob’s Marine. They also received a pair of those nice plaques from the “The Hook”, and a check for$3170. Good job to both for a fun day.

Finishing in third was a pair of brothers from Lodi, Scott and Russ Adkins. These guys had a pretty good day themselves with nearly a 5.5 pound average. Their 5 fish weighed 27.38 Lbs with a 6.23 pound kicker fish. The brothers had a littler different pattern than most, as they used swimbaits all day long with an occasional Yamamoto Jig pitched in. Mission fish Swimmers and a new bait, Cantswim baits tossed directly into the wind was the pattern the boys discovered and it seamed to work fairly well as they took home $1595. Russ wanted to thank AAA computer services, Ultralite Paychecks, Repell Lures, Whatnext Electronics and Cantswim baits.

Forth place went to Discovery Bay’s Firuz Gizatullin and Jeremy Zipton. They brought in 5 fish for a total of 27.13 pounds and were rewarded with $1180 while a fifth place check of $845 went to Tom Lutz of Vacaville and Ash Twigg of Oakley.

Congratulations to all for a great season, and we look forward to seeing everyone who qualified for the Team Championship at New Melones in October.
