Future Pro Tour heads for Gold Country!

ROCKLIN, Ca – In and around an area that once hosted California's great Gold Rush during the mid 1800's, lies a lake that today hosts one of the best "gold mines" for spotted bass in the west – beautiful Lake Oroville.

But Future Pro Tour anglers won't be bringing picks and shovels to this 15,500 surface acre gold country lake. High performance bass boats, rods, reels, and the latest in electronics technologies will be the tools necessary for successful mining on this lake that is absolutely full of spotted bass.

This sixth stop in the 2007 Future Pro Tour season, presented by People's Folsom Lake – Chrysler/Jeep/Hyundai, is an important one for many of those anglers determined to gain ground on their chances to qualify for a spot in this November's Future Pro Tour Classic championship in which a fully-rigged Ranger 188vs powered by an Evinrude 150hp with full Minnkota/Humminbird electronics will be awarded as top prize.

Lake Oroville is a deep water impoundment that is arguably the most prolific spotted bass fishery in the west – if not the country. Fish can be caught in a variety of ways this time of year including top water, dropshot, and deep jig presentations, with fish responding to each based on time of day and light conditions. To get a better understanding of how to fish Lake Oroville, you can always visit the FPT website and view the pro's pointers section and get details from top pro-support staffer like Ralph Harkins and Richard Dobyns on how to fish it in the late summer.

Race for the Classic and AOY title

"We constantly keep it in the forefront of our minds that only about 40 teams in our region will make it to the big show on Oroville in November," commented Chris Fancelli and Jeff Pyles of Redding who currently sit at the top of the overall points standings for the northern region. We are not taking any of the remaining events lightly, nor are we making any assumptions as to how we are going to do," he added cautiously. We are going to stay focused at each event and try to ensure that we get a shot at making the Classic in November”.

Ryan Cook and Eric Souza of Winton Ca, fishing in the FPT's central region are also happy about the upcoming FPT classic and their shot a Classic glory. “The tour has really taught us what real competition is all about, and the variety of lakes we fish has helped us tremendously in gaining perspective in regards to versatility”, they both commented happy to be sitting in 1st place in that region's angler of the year race.

"Make no bones about it, we have not conceded anything”. Said Jason Milligan and Michael Wright, two extremely competitive anglers that hail from the Redding area fishing the northern region and sitting just mere points out of the lead. “Both Lake Oroville and Folsom Lake are our strongest venues, and we are going for the AOY title with all we have”, they added.

And these teams racing for the AOY title have much to look forward to as the successful team will not only receive the prestigious Future Pro Tour Angler of the Year title, but also a fantastic package of bonuses that go with it including; up to $2,000 in cash *limited sponsorships from companies such as Battery Systems, Lucky Craft, Lamiglas Rods, and Angler's Press promotions/resume service. Additional bonuses include co-angler entries into a *2008 FLW/Stren Series event as well as entries into the *2008 Vanity Cup.

The upcoming Oroville event will be held on Saturday, Sept 22nd , launching out of the Spillway ramp. On Friday, September 21st , the day before the event at the Gold Country Casino's “Gold Rush” room, we will hold our traditional pre-registration seminar featuring these top these top FPT pro-staff members:

Ralph Harkins

Battery Systems pro staffer, and solid member of Galaxie Marine/ Triton boats pro staff, this 2-time W.O.N Bass team angler of the year, knows Oroville. And, most importantly, he knows how to prepare for team competition. So if you're looking for that extra "edge" to help make you a little bit more competitive, don't miss what Ralph will have to say.

Dave Rush

Known to many as "Mr. Oroville", Dave is one of the west's most successful pros, and can win on any body of water. Dave has scored victories in major Pro/Am competitions throughout the west, and is a 4-time Angler of the Year. A deep-water aficionado, look for Dave to expound on deep dropshotting techniques and show you how to use your Humminbird electronics to catch Oroville bass.

Richard Dobyns

A solid pro in his own right, Richard has long ago moved from the shadow of his famous father to prove his own worth and angling prowess on the west's various tournament trials. Richard strengths are his uncanny instincts in finding quality fish and understands the Oroville waterway better than most. Look for Richard to help you develop a pattern to become successful on this deep water lake.

So come on out and join us for an event that will help bring the summer to a close! As always, late registrations will be taken the morning of the event from 4 to 6am at the Spillway ramp, and “as you go” memberships for this event will be available for just $5 per team.

See you all in the Gold Country!
