WON BASS SEASON OPENER AT LAKE SHASTA

The WON BASS tour will be making the first stop of the northern season this January 5-6th at Lake Shasta. Known for its strong spotted bass bite, the weather at Shasta should challenge the angling field as rain and snow will be likely companions during tournament hours.

With favorable weather and a consistent bite, last year’s WON BASS Shasta Open champion, Bret Gouvea of Redding took home $24,600 in cash on the back of a two-day, 31.84 pound weight that included a big fish of 7.27 pounds!

With Nitro boats and Mercury motors on board as a WON BASS sponsors for 2008, the first place Pro angler can look forward to taking home the top prize of Nitro Z7 boat and trailer rigged with a Mercury 175hp ProXS motor, Lowrance electronics, and Trojan batteries valued at over $30,000 – all with no contingencies to meet! Certificates will be awarded so that the winning Pro may pick out the colors and other options they choose. Full paybacks may be seen on the official WON BASS website at WWW.WONBASS.COM.

For those anglers who do drive a Nitro, Bass Tracker, or Pro Craft, the Nitro Tournament Rewards program will also be in place for this tournament and will offer some of the richest owner incentive paybacks in tournament fishing. Check out www.fishingtourrewards.com for the complete details on the Nitro Owners incentive in place for the 2008 WON BASS season.

Pro entry on the WON BASS circuit is $500 while an AAA entry runs $225. Thanks to the folks at Nitro boats, WON BASS will be offering a first time discount to anglers who are new to the circuit or have not fished with WON BASS during the 2006 or 2007 season. New AAA Anglers will receive a 50% discount off their entry fee while Pro anglers will receive a 20% discount off their entry. And best of all, since Nitro is subsidizing this program, the paybacks will remain unchanged! Discounted entries must be phoned into WON BASS no later than January 2nd, 2008.

While daily big bass options worth a total of $2,300 are included in your entry fee, competitors may also throw their hat into the optional Big Stringer and High Roller jackpots worth thousands of dollars.

WON BASS Lake Shasta anglers will be accumulating points towards the Northern “Angler of the Year” points race which will award a minimum of $7,250 to the end of the year Pro winner and $3,600 to the end of the year AAA winner. Points will also be accruing for the $10,000 Daiwa Cup and $3,000 AAA cup point races which will be settled at this year’s U.S. Open to be held at Lake Mead on Sept 4-10th, 2008.

Tournament headquarters for the WON BASS Lake Shasta Open will be the Ramada Limited on Twin View Blvd in Redding. Special WON BASS rates are offered for competitors and reservations may be secured by calling (530) 246-2222. Bridge Bay Resort will be the launch and weigh-in site.

Deadline to enter the event is Wednesday, January 2nd. Anglers may print out and entry form on line at www.wonbass.com or you may call WON BASS coordinator Ashley Reynolds at (949) 366-0030 ext 38 to enter by phone.
