Providing real-time information for anglers that want to know

GRANITE BAY, Calif. – When asked to provide inside information regarding a subject of a confidential nature, an old - but wise man was once heard to say: “Those that know - don’t tell….and those that tell - don’t know.” And while these words may be a bit confusing to some or ring as “mystical” to others, those anglers preparing for the second stop of the Thunder Valley Outdoors/Future Pro Tour to be held on Folsom Lake on Saturday, April 17th would do well to try to understand the statement and its underlying message.

The unfortunate truth is that many anglers, who lack competitive experience, usually lack the ability to keep valuable information to themselves and/or the wisdom to keep themselves from becoming the victims of strategically placed, counter-productive “dock talk” fabricated and propagated by those they are in competition with.

For Folsom Lake is truly one of the northern California’s most productive and fertile impoundments, and in spring time – especially during the month of April, the bite can be nothing short of phenomenal. Last year’s event held on virtually the same date as this year’s, saw more big fish than ever before caught by anglers of various skill levels, confirming the fact that being at the right place, at the right time could be one key to success.

But as seasoned anglers will quickly attest, success in competition rarely comes to those that simply “show up” for an event or rely on last year’s conditions or patterns to see them through. Conditions are known to change on a movements notice, and “can’t miss”patterns often fall apart. Good preparation is always the key, and sound, reliable advice or instruction should always be first priority on the agenda of an angler that seeks gain the competitive edge.

To this end, the Future Pro Tour will host several instructional activities days before the event designed to give those anglers preparing for the event - dubbed “The Thunder Valley Casino – High Rollers Open!”, sound instruction and a better chance at success come game day.

Comprehensive pre-fish help

On Wed, April 14th from 5:30 to 7:30pm at the Fishermen’s Warehouse in Sacramento, a dynamic class will be hosted by FPT Tech called “Basic Sonar Concepts,” a hands-on seminar designed to provide anglers with a better understanding of this new generation of sonar technology, and better handle on the basic functionality of the fish finders they own. Len Vinci of Johnson Outdoors is a master of the subject matter and you will be amazed at what you don’t know regarding the expensive sonar units you own. Registration for the class will be on a first-come first-served basis and is limited to 30 students and will fill up quick, so sign up today by calling emailing the FPT offices (vince@futureprotour.net).

On Friday, April 16th, the day before the event, the FPT will again host our “On the Water” pre-fish seminar featuring ten of the best pro anglers that fish Folsom Lake. Andy Sayles, Dean McDaniel, Corey Fenske, and Russ Graves to name a few, will actually be on the water, posted at key areas of the lake, where ANYONE can pull up next to them and receive real-time instruction on how to fish that particular area of the lake. Last year, during the on the water seminar, Andy Sayles, assigned to the Mid Peninsula area of the lake, was instructing anglers on how to fish Senko baits in submerged trees, and landed a 10 pound bass - to the amazement of large group of anglers in attendance! The “On the Water” prefish seminars will take place from 10am to 1pm. ANYONE can participate- even if you do not fish FPT events. Please go to the FPT website to see the official map that lists where each pro will be stationed on Friday.

Also on Friday, April 16th, the evening before the event at Thunder Valley Casino, we will host a fantastic seminar featuring some of the best bass pros in the west who will give out valuable information regarding how to pattern spring time bass at Folsom Lake. Alan Fong, one of the most respected pro anglers in the west, manager of the Fishermen’s Warehouse in Sacramento, and designer of the Al-E-Baby swim bait, will headline the seminar and will talk about springtime swim bait strategies and techniques he uses on Folsom Lake. Len Vinci from Johnson Outdoors will also be on hand to help answer any questions you may have regarding sonar and will have units that demonstrate the new side-imaging technology.
