FLW COLLEGE FISHING WESTERN DIVISION TO HOST EVENT ON LAKE MEAD

Spawn and Post-Spawn Fish will Offer Fishing as Good as it Gets on Mead

Las Vegas, Nev. (April 27, 2010) – National Guard FLW College Fishing is headed to Lake Mead May 8 for the second of four stops in the Western Division series. Forty collegiate teams will be competing for a top award of $10,000 to be split evenly between the school and bass fishing club.

“The spawn and post-spawn fish will be in shallow water for this tournament, I wouldn’t go any deeper than 20 feet,” said FLW tour pro Brett Hite of Phoenix, Ariz., who will also be fishing at Lake Mead in a FLW Western Series competition that same weekend. “Finesse style fishing using a drop-shot with a Texas rig worm or Yamamoto Spider Jig should work really well. If the wind picks up reaction baits such as jerkbaits, spinnerbaits, and tubes work well.

“The wind could be a big factor in this tournament, it often blows in April and May and can determine where you can and cannot fish; it can get pretty rough out there and teams should have a back-up plan just in case.

“Lake Mead is a super clear deep reservoir, teams should use a light line and stay close to the banks and they should do fine.”

Anglers will take off and weigh-in at the Callville Bay-Forever Resorts Concessioners of NPS located at HCR-30, Las Vegas, Nev. Take off is at 7 a.m. while weigh-in will begin at 1:30 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.
