Need some help with Berkley product and a strategy for success in the BIG BASS event? Well check out Randy Pringle – The Fishing Instructor, tips for success at the 2010 Berkley Big Bass Challenge…

Hey guys and gals, Randy Pringle – The Fishing Instructor here, with my best tips for success for this weekend’s event.

This looks to be a great event with a lot of fun and a lot of game play. Remember, we had a 1.87 pounder win cash in last year’s Big Bass Challenge, so the game play is: what is the best hour to your fish to be weighed? Or better yet, “Do I bring it in the first hour or the third? What is my best chance of making some cash and winning a key to that truck?”

With Berkley fulfilling all your angling needs from top to bottom, catching bass should not be a problem. I have been fishing Berkley Baits for over 30 years and have had a lot of success in my fishing career. With Berkley quality is number one. Many of you have looked at some of the older baits, shrugged your shoulders, and have wondered to yourselves..do they work? Yes, they all work. Berkley’s R n D Department, (you know, the men in the white coats) put a lot of effort in making sure these baits catch fish. So I have made a Top Bite List for recommendations for you anglers who may need a little help as I have been on the water a lot in the last two months.

• Berkley 4 inch Crazy Legs Chigger Craw. This bait help Boyd Ducket win the Bass Master Classic; and Skeet Reese used this same bait to win the Bass Master Classic. Are you listening to me? This bait is a proven winner. Colors - Black & Blue Flake, Green Pumpkin, Cinnamon Purple Flake all rigged Texas Style, rocks & weeds and punching (punching- a weight heavy enough to bring it though heavy cover).

• 10 Inch Berkley Power Worm, which is fished all over the world. If you ask someone for a big worm bait, Berkley 10 Inch Power Worm rolls right off the tongue, like Coca Cola. It is definitely a big fish getter in Green Pumpkin, Moccasin, June Bug rigged Texas Style.

• Berkley Power Hawgs – If you are looking for a big bait that will give you water displacement, this is the creature bait of choice. The size I recommend is the 5 inch in Black & Blue or June Bug rigged Texas Style.

• Berkley’s Hollow Bellies – 5 and 6 inch for a tight wobble, these baits stand alone! After the Hollow Style Swimbaits came on the scene, Berkley took the men in the white suits to the drawing board. Developing this bait and fished at a slow retrieve with 17 pound test 100% Trilene Fluorocarbon, is a cast away from a big fish. This bait can be thrown early in the morning and through the heavy cover; if the wind comes up, you can throw it all day long. Colors – Bluegill, AYU, Shad and don’t forget Hitch.

• With the spawn, don’t forget the Berkley Tube. If you want it to look like a crawdad, pick dark colors. This bait also gives the illusion of a school of bait fish or fry, go with more small fish colors – Smoke or Watermelon. You pick the color – you can’t go wrong – rig it Texas Style.

• Did you know that Berkley makes a jig? Well they do! It has been designed by some of the best pros in the country. So for you Jig fishermen, Berkley did not leave you out. The Jig bite has been good. Keep with your dark patterns matching your crawdads in 3/8 to ½ ounce sizes. Accent it with a Berkley Trailer and lunch is served! Care for a lobster, Mr. Bass?

• If you can find some of the old top water baits, grab them ‘cause the top water bite came on and if you cannot, Berkley makes a Batwing Frog. Rigged with a 4/0 heavy duty hook, slowly buzzing it across the weed beds, hold on! Spider Wire Stealth in 50 or 65 pound test is recommended for this technique. Colors – Gotta’ have the White, Black and Green & Black.

Berkley makes so many baits, I could go on and on. But try some of these during the Berkley Big Bass Challenge and you may win yourself a truck! Remember these words, “Berkley will set you up for success”.

Good luck at the Challenge everyone!
