FLW COLLEGE FISHING WESTERN DIVISION HEADED TO LAKE ROOSEVELT

Warm temperatures should heat up bite at Lake Roosevelt

PAYSON, Ariz. (Feb. 10, 2011) – National Guard FLW College Fishing is headed to Lake Roosevelt Feb. 19 for the second of four stops in the Western Division. Forty college teams will be competing for a top award of $10,000 to be split between the school and bass fishing club; $7,500 for bass club and $2,500 for their school.

“The cold front that went through last week has slowed fishing down just a bit,” said National Guard pro Brett Hite of Phoenix, Ariz., who finished eighth in the 2010 Angler of the Year race in the Walmart FLW Series National Guard Western Division. “Fish are going to be pre-spawn, but there should still be some nice limits caught. There are some 8 to 10-pounders waiting out there, the trick is going to be finding them.

“Finesse fishing, drop-shot and Texas rigs will all be popular techniques for this tournament. Most of the fish are going to be 10 to 30 feet deep and getting ready to move up into staging areas. It should be a pretty textbook tournament,” Hite added.

Anglers will take off from Cholla Recreation Site located five miles northwest of Roosevelt Dam on Highway 188 in Roosevelt, Ariz., at 7 a.m. Saturday. Weigh-in will be held at Walmart located at 300 North Beeline Highway in Payson beginning at 2:30 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.
