Bassmaster Elite Series Coming to Sacramento

SACRAMENTO, CA – The Sacramento Sports Commission, a division of the Sacramento Convention & Visitors Bureau (SCVB), is proud to announce that the Bassmaster Elite Series will be coming to Sacramento in 2015.  The Bassmaster Elite Series, a nine-tournament event, is the premier fishing tournament series in the world, and will be held in Sacramento from April 30 – May 3, 2015, at Discovery Park.  An estimated 15,000 spectators will gather to watch the 110 professional anglers compete over four days for a $100,000 top prize.

“We certainly realize that we are a destination with fantastic natural resources and beautiful waterways, and we love our outdoor sports,” said Steve Hammond, President & CEO, SCVB.  “Partnering with B.A.S.S. is a great way to celebrate the sport of fishing and the tremendous natural beauty of Sacramento County.”

Fishing is the third most popular outdoor activity in America today, with an estimated 1.2 million freshwater anglers fishing every day.  B.A.S.S., the oldest organization in the fishing industry with over a half a million members, is dedicated to conservation and preserving the culture and resources.  The 2015 Bassmaster Elite Series event is expected to generate more than $1.6 million in direct economic impact for Sacramento with a projected 2,944 room nights over the four days of competition.

“Sacramento County is proud to have an opportunity to highlight Discovery Park, the Sacramento Delta, and our natural resources in a way that uniquely connects with visitors and residents,” said Jimmie Yee, Chairman of the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors.  “We look forward to working with B.A.S.S. and the Sacramento Sports Commission to make the 2015 Bassmaster Elite Series event in Sacramento County a huge success.”

“We strive to identify both sports that connect with our community and great partners in our industry.  With the Bassmaster Elite Series, we believe we have done both,” said Mike Sophia, Director of the Sacramento Sports Commission. “We look forward to building a true partnership with B.A.S.S. and continuing to promote the sport of fishing in our region.”

B.A.S.S. is the largest media company in the world that reaches anglers, and is the ultimate authority on bass fishing.  Bassmaster reaches an audience of more than 3.5 million, with a circulation of 520,000.  Digitally speaking, Bassmaster.com averages over 500,000 unique visitors monthly.  The Bassmasters is the most widely distributed tournament-based fishing show in the U.S., reaching 168MM households.  Over 40 hours of programming on ESPN2 covers the Bassmaster Elite Series and the Bassmaster Classic, the “Super Bowl” of fishing.
