Report: Slow down if you want to score at Calero. We started fishing deep points (along with the MANY boats on the lake this Wednesday) without much success. Went a little shallower (12-18ft) and were able to score some fish. Nothing huge, but just your average 2lb Calero bass. Couple dinks mixed in for flavor, but we caught 12 for the day. Best 5 went 12lbs. Slow retrieving Baby Brush Hogs, Gulp Minnows and Yamamoto Double Tail Grubs. Did see a substantial amount of Crappie on the graph (quite a few crappie bites on the plastics) and watched a guy pull out some nice ones close to Dam while dropshotting for the Bass. Get out before it gets too cold.

Tips: We caught some fish shallow around weed edges along bank and most in the 12-20ft water depth range. Many bites after deadsticking for 30-40 seconds then gently moving the bait. Also, any drops you can find should hold fish... pull over a rock or something deep and let it fall, get a bite. Fish it while you can players!

Report: Skunked. Windy all day. Water was stained to muddy. Lake was very low. Wanted a crankbait fish unfortunately stuck with them too long. Tried Lucky Craft Skeet Reese in Chartruese Shad, Norman Lil N in Natural Shad Norman DD22 in Red and Black and Bomber in orange and red, also tried a 5" Big Hammer in Wookie Wacker. No takers. When I finally I realized I might be in trouble I switched to darthead grubs, split-shot Robo Worm in OxBlood with red flake and C-rigged Baby Brushhog in green pumpkin. Not a bite. Spoke with another fisherman at the ramp on departure (3:30 pm) and they did equally badly. Just a dues paying day.

Report: Have not seen a report here for Calero, so decided to check it out on my own. Made a visit to folks in San Jose, but on the way back spent a few hours walking bank at Calero. Hardly anyone there. Fished from 3-5:30pm and caught 5 fish. First one was a nice 3lb fish caught on a Yamamoto Hula Grub. Caught it less than 7 feet from bank. I got many hits close - like a foot or more from bank... thought they were panfish until i connected with one... a nice little 1-1/2lb fish. Switched out to a baby brush hog - caught 2 more. Went to a worm and caught a couple more. A few further out, but most fish literally 2-3 ft from shore in shallow water. Saw lots of baitfish and birds and fished those areas. Tried frogs in weeds, but no takers. Plastics the ticket. Can't wait to come back in the B-Boat for a full day of action.

Tips: Shallow. Plastics. I worked them faster than usual and that was the ticket. The cooler nights is turning this lake back on. In about 3-4 weeks, this place will be rocking with the full on fall bite.
