Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Caught a decent amount of fish today, mainly in coves where the wind isn't too bad.

Tips: Use spinnerbait when its windy off main points and over vegetation. Drop shot and ned rig also seems like a guaranteed catch, used pb&j or dark finesse worm.

    Water Temp: 57-58

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

Report: First time on Calero in 5 years. Beautiful day on the lake. Two other boats when we launched about 9:30. Only about 3-4 boats on the lake most of the day. Very little wind most of the day.
Wish the fishing was better. Buddy had a pick up on a hula grub in shallow water that was never hooked.
Both of us had many soft bites, but wouldn't hold on to the drop shot baits we were using in 40-50 feet of water. Most graphed at about 30-35 feet. Buddy ended up landing a solid 13 incher and a crappie. Both on a short robo worm curl tail in Aaron's magic or whatever his color is. Pumpkin brown and green.
Not sure if it made a difference, but he was using my drop shot rig with 6# and I was using another spinning outfit with 10#.

Report: Bite was on.... when it rained. Caught a few between the actual rain, but when it was raining we pounded them in 10-12 feet with jerkbaits. Long pauses. Move it twice and pause again - bam. Repeat for 10 fish in 2lb range.
    City: Pacific Grove

Tips: 3rd time i've been here and it has turned on during rain. Only on days with unstable weather. rain all day we don't do well. Jerkbaits right now, but senkos also work good.

Report: Boat's in the shop, so walked the back side of Calero throwing spinnerbait and jigs this Saturday and Sunday. Saturday was pretty good, only three fish, but biggest was 6.4. Other two were 2-3 lbs. Lost a much bigger fish in the back arm of the lake - was throwing a chartreuse spinnerbait with chartreuse/orange blades when something hit it and started ripping line off the reel. I had 12 lb test, could not turn the fish, which ran into some wood and broke me off. Came back the next day, caught 4 from 2 to 5 lbs on jigs and another spinnerbaits as well. Hoped to get another chance at the monster that took my first spinnerbait, but no luck. God Bless, Rob T.
    City: Half Moon Bay

Tips: Big fish are definitely moving up. I caught my biggest fish all near the bank on wood or other structure. Both jigs and reaction baits worked.

    Water Temp: 48-49

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Lake is in great shape. Rainy, but not cold. Wind was minimal to light. Plenty of juice left in the trolling motor. Decent bite. Carolina rigged hogs 5-10 feet. Points worked well. Later in day, caught fish in 10 ft deep flats. Key was shallower water near deep. Caught only a few early (815am) then nothing for 4 hours. Last few hours of our outing we got 9. Dragging with wind and slow hopping.

Also bites around grass. All plastics though, nothing on jigs, jerks or cranks. Fish were in beautiful shape and starting to transition out of winter patterns. Slowly. Just an indicator bite could be getting ready to start for the season.
    City: Pacific Grove

Tips: Fish slow. Shallow near deeper was ticket for us today. Not pissed at 12 fish for January. Made it worth it fishing in the rain. Broke in that holiday rain gear.

    Water Temp: 58

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Slow down if you want to score at Calero. We started fishing deep points (along with the MANY boats on the lake this Wednesday) without much success. Went a little shallower (12-18ft) and were able to score some fish. Nothing huge, but just your average 2lb Calero bass. Couple dinks mixed in for flavor, but we caught 12 for the day. Best 5 went 12lbs. Slow retrieving Baby Brush Hogs, Gulp Minnows and Yamamoto Double Tail Grubs. Did see a substantial amount of Crappie on the graph (quite a few crappie bites on the plastics) and watched a guy pull out some nice ones close to Dam while dropshotting for the Bass. Get out before it gets too cold.
    City: Pacific Grove

Tips: We caught some fish shallow around weed edges along bank and most in the 12-20ft water depth range. Many bites after deadsticking for 30-40 seconds then gently moving the bait. Also, any drops you can find should hold fish... pull over a rock or something deep and let it fall, get a bite. Fish it while you can players!

Report: Entry to the lake through the back, pass the horse stables, has been closed until further notice. I ran into a gate right at the ranger station in the back that had a sign saying "no public access". I spoke to a ranger and he told me the horse stable's lease had run out and the county/water district did not renew it. So while they're cleaning out all the horse stuff in the back, there is to be no trespassing up that road to the levee until further notice. He told me it could be a while but wasn't sure when it would be open again. I just hope it's open by spring.

    Water Temp: 59-61 degrees

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Fish are still biting - not as hard as previous weeks. Watch for the light ticks on the line - or you will miss bites. Worms, Grubs, drop shot all worked well... some fish shallow, some fish in 20-28 feet. Nothing Huge this time out, best fish 3lbs. We caught 9 bass and 7 crappie. 3 of those crappie were HORSES! 2lbs or better. Fought like bass (and hit like bass - pounded the dropshot)
    City: Pacific Grove

Tips: Release! We are catching more fish with jacked up mouths... please be careful and don't RIP those gammies out. I caught yet another nice fish with a broken ripped up jaw. W-T-F??

    Water Temp: 65

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Only got 3 all around 2.5#. Very windy in the AM till around 1300. All fish caught between 1300-1430 as the wind died and it started sprinkling.
Two fish caught deep (>25) one on a C-rigged BabyBrushHog in Junebug, the other a T-rigged trick worm. One shallow on a a black with blue and gold flake senko. Tried hard but got nothing on reaction baits, spinner, ratLtrap, crank, jerk.
    City: Monterey

Tips: Slow plastics worked for me.

    Water Temp: 70-72

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Lake is in Great shape. 2nd voyage of my new Red G3 Bass boat (love a boat that starts every time!) I was surprised with water temp this time of year at 70-72. I expected warmer. Anyway, bass were definately deep. Find them deep off points and structure, catch fish. Caught some absolutely horse crappie on drop shot rig, started free floating a mini jig while bassin' and caught a dozen more. Nice, big 1lb crappie. No dinks on the crappie front. Bass bite was decent on drop shotting small baits. I caught fish using gulp minnows and chartreuse power bait stick minnows, 4 inch robo worms and a couple on salt and pepper grubs. Lots of shad moving around... saw numerous shad being chased by bass... once in a while you would see a couple shad darting around near the boat - clearly being chased by bass or crappie. The fall bite is rapidly approaching.
    City: Pacific Grive

Tips: Fish slow and fish deep. No reaction bite at all. Spinners, cranks, jerks = nada. Slow presentation worms and grubs got bites. Bites were a mix of pounding it and gently ticking it. Bigger fish were ticking, smaller fish beating the sh*t out of it. Best 5 went 15lbs. We caught a total of 14. Be gentile with those big bass. 1/3 of the fish had real jacked up jaws where people are not being cool with hook removal and release. 'enuff said.

Report: Smashed the hell out of them today using a paddle tail swimbait! Fairly windy, enough to stir a bite. Spinnerbaits drew no attention but a 5 inch paddle tail caught me 14 fish with the biggest close to 5lbs. All bites came in two hours later in the afternoon.
