often face and even as college anglers we are not alone in this, is how to approach and be successful on a new body of water. in most cases, for college anglers as well as some co-anglers, possibly even a few pros, that first time physically on a new body of water is day one of a tournament. While everyone measures their successes differently when approaching a new fishery, the challenge is usually common.

WHEN TO START?

as college students we all practice procrastination quite often; some of us do better under the last minute stress and pressure and others need time to gather and put together information. Most people go into these collegiate tournaments having done very little preparation, if any at all. often times, it is not the amount of information that is important, but rather the quality of information. Jared Spickelmier of Boise State believes heavily in relying on what he already knows, “it’s one thing if i could be there the entire week before and be able to find and follow the fish; but going in cold like we have to, we have to go in with a simple concept, adapt and stick to our strengths.”
