he 2012 iCaSt show took orlando, Fla. by storm with tons of pro anglers and a record number of industry media present. West- ernBass.com was on hand for a review of the trade show and as many of you saw, video clips were posted to the forums straight from the show floor. although the iCaSt attendees voted on the year’s category winners, here we take a deeper look at some of the industry’s new offerings that didn’t receive a show title as tyler Brinks brings us his top picks to the pages of WesternBass Magazine.

Brinks commented that the show in Fla. differed in some ways than the Vegas production saying, “it seems that it was heavier on saltwater products and also it seemed that there were more small companies present than what is usually seen when it was in las Vegas.” He also noted that Humminbird and their 360 imaging seemed to be the talk of the show- something you might expect for a product that 4-time Bassmaster Classic champion Kevin Vandam has been quoted as equating to “Superman’s X-ray vision”.

The show’s winner in this category was the St. Croix legend Xtreme. Brinks best for the choice of Freshwater rod was the Phenix M1. “it aesthetics is one thing that i liked, it just had a stylish look,” said Brinks. “it was also super-light and had extreme strength due to the carbon fiber nano technology. The reel seat had a custom feel that appealed to me; it was totally unique and really sleek. You would think with all this, it would be more expensive; but it has a starting price of only $169. if i were going to pick one i would say the 7’2” MH would be a good rod for a lot of uses.” other features of the Phenix M1 Series are premium SiC guides and durable eVa handles.

The winner of this category was the Columbia Sportswear airgill Chill long sleeve shirt. Brinks best for the choice of apparel was the MoJo Sportswear Bass Camo line. “i liked the look of the Bass Camo,” stated Brinks. “it is made of material that is SPF 50. They have both sun shirts and face guards available. it is light-weight, stain-resistant and breathable - perfect for fishermen.” The Bass Camo is available in a green pattern or pink for the ladies.
