and said, “just stay here; we’re afloat, we’re safe and it doesn’t seem like anything is going to change.” Then, he said, “and ... the fishing is pretty good.” He laughed. Well, i didn’t have much choice so i let some more anchor rode out and the boat did calm down a bit. it wasn’t much longer that dees’ rod lit up again. i just couldn’t believe it. Three fish in the boat and i didn’t catch a one. Well, the limit on stripers was two apiece, so we already had 75 percent of our fish caught and i hadn’t caught a one. Now, i was starting to get a little pissed to so say the least. When that third fish came to the boat i was still sitting down. dee looked at me and said, “Hey ray, you mind getting the net?” i said, “yeah, i mind, net him yourself.” He said, “now come on ray, grab the net.” as i pointed to the net i said, “piss on you!”
He laughed and moved to grab the net. i knew he could have netted it himself, but that would just give him more to brag about and i was already headed for a whole week of hell... no use making it any worse. i grabbed the net. We put the fish in the boat and now dee had a three to nothing lead on me. i was toast. Nothing i could do but hope to hell that i would get the “go home fish”, and it would be the biggest of them all.
