ted Williams era, and my most vivid memories begin with the reggie Jackson era; but, our memories overlap. With baseball being a game that requires extreme physicality, the careers of players are relatively short, even for the long tenured ones. Fishing; however, is different. our sport is truly fortunate that our earliest true “heroes” of the game are still active for the most part. Up until this past year, anglers like denny Brauer, rick Clunn, and larry Nixon were all still active on the national tours. Their willingness to drive the long miles, put in the long hours and still be competitive have allowed my children’s generation to be able to experience them in the same sense that we did when we first became fans of fishing. i was reminded of all of that when i was at the red river in Shreveport / Bossier City, la. last week for the 2013 Forrest Wood Cup. to be fair, it didn’t occur to me until after the event was over and i was on my way home, but it hit me that i had once again been able to watch one of the true legends of bass fishing at work.
