Lakes of 2017, Clear Lake is a bass fishing
destination like no other.
Those riveted to the bass sitch on the famed big bass fishery have seen the internet posts,
social media pix or followed local fishing news from
Lake County outdoor columnist Terry Knight at the
Record-Bee (even back to the print only days) as
reports highlight the lake’s legendary awesomeness:
A 17.52-pound lake record largemouth landed by
Jerry Basgal in 1990
A five-fish limit of 49.8 brought in by John Pearl
and Jason Kincannon in a team tournament in 2014
The 64.78 winning weight of Shane Peirson and
Russ Graves at a two-day event this year
These events prove Clear Lake is home to a class
of largemouth bass that dreams are made of.
PB’s are frequently achieved at the lake, double-
digits are often shown in a grip-n-grin on Insta and
even a tweener or teener could grant a basser with
the fight of a lifetime on any given day.
Although the bassin’ potential is limitless, Clear
Lake does not just bestow record catches and big
bass trophies to all that launch on its waters.
Clear Lake can be fickle, the fish can be finicky and the conditions can be brutal.
And while these obstacles exist (similarly to any other fishery) there are a handful of anglers that consistently seem to overcome Clear Lake’s challenges and standout amongst the others. I call them the “top-10 game changers”, simply, because when they’re fishin’, they change the game for the rest of the field. There typically must be room made for them with a top-10 spot on the leaderboard.
There are several top-10 game changes at Clear Lake. We all know who they are. We see them in the standings at most events. Sure, anyone can have an off day, make a bad decision and fall off into a lower finish; but overall, we see their names over and over again in the top-10.
At Clear Lake, one of these names is Wayne Breazeale. Breazeale is notable angler and remarkably so at Clear lake.
Beyond past year’s achievements, from March 2016 to June2017 alone, Breazeale has claimed four major victories at the fishery.
In March 2016, Breazeale ran away with the “W” at the WON Bass 4th annual California Open with a lead of over 7-pounds.
