catch someone violating a rule (knowingly or unknowingly), and it is best to let the violator know, so they can disqualify themselves so you do not have to protest them. regardless, there should be no surprises back at the weigh-in.

The competitors that seem to return, year after year, are not necessarily those who win more than they lose. truth be told, it is very difficult to cover all expenses with winnings and make a profit in which you pay income

taxes year after year. Those who are successful usually do so by supplementing tournament fishing with other fishing related business. So, what is it that keeps these anglers returning? in many cases they achieve two major goals. They learn something that makes them better anglers and they have fun!

Make it a point to learn something at every tournament, win or lose. even the losses are worth the entry if you make it a point to learn something. let me give you an example. When i started college, i also considered myself a pretty good pool player; because i could beat my friends. in town there was the local billiard academy where i hung out and i made it a point to challenge guys that were better than me. The loser had to pay for the table time and the pitcher of beer after the game. i chose to play guys that could beat me; because they were the guys that i could learn from (i never learned much from losers that was worth learning). Sure, it cost me a little coin, but i learned to be a much better pool player, which in turn earned me free pool and beer after a couple of years. Had i not risked some cash to compete against better
