change out the rear feathered hook. Keep off the fishing area as far as you can cast. Start at the edge, 50- to 75-yards back from where the water runs in the lake. When you make your first cast, don’t throw all the way to the back. if you hook one, you could blow ‘em all out and potentially spook your next catch. Work your way into the pocket with your casts. roll into the pocket on the down low. trolling motor back to your area until you see fish; but if you get too close you’ll flush ‘em out and you’re not going to move back and catch ‘em. don’t fret, move on to another cover or pocket and come back in stealth mode in 20 minutes or so. The fish will come back. all three species of bass will move together to these areas, at this time of year. and, you won’t just find them paired up to spawn - they all group up together. if you find one, you will most likely find more. it wouldn’t be uncommon to get 15 to 30 in a group. look for hard, rock bottom. Not mud, not sand - only hard bottom.

Wood is a bonus. look for logs, trees, laydowns, flooded willows - when looking for a place to cast, wooden is good one. don’t scrimp on your sunglasses. You don’t fish with a $19 reel; why fish with $19 glasses? You have to be able to see and a good quality lens will make all the difference. i wear Costa del Mar polarized glasses with the 580 polycarbonate lens. i can change my glasses several times in a day to get the right color lens for the conditions; if i had to suggest one all-around best color, i would say mirrored copper. again, i wouldn’t fish all conditions with one bait or all baits with one rod. The same goes for glasses, one lens doesn’t work for all situations.
