choke type performances. One that comes to mind for me as a Sacramento Kings fan was Peja Stojakovic in the 2002 Western Conference Championship series with the Los Angeles Lakers. After the controversial Game 6 outcome, Game 7 was close and in the last minute of the game, Sacramento was down three points, and Stojakovic received a pass for a wide open three point opportunity.

I am not picking on anyone, and truthfully, I hate the word “choke.” So many of us never truly experience the kind of stress that an athlete goes through under a high pressure situation. The truth is that even the most mentally tough person on earth can have a mental breakdown under a high pressure, high value situation. It does not take much to effect a person physically, and usually the decision making process is the first thing to go.
That being said, I feel for these guys when they overlook a potential windfall by missing something obvious in a Bassmaster Classic, Forrest Wood Cup
or Major League Fishing championship day. However, the truth is that it happens.
I remember a day on the Alabama River several years ago where one such event occurred. I was watching an angler flipping down a bank that was loaded with water willow, and just about every time the angler found a combination of water willow and wood, he would get a bite. The one thing that had yet to become factor at this one point was current.
Bass in Alabama, and river bass in general are tuned in to feeding in the current, and almost the moment the flow turns on, bass begin to feed. This had started moments prior as one of the anglers was fishing down a stretch of water willow in a small backwater area. After he had fished a long stretch of the bank, he got to an area that had current washing in from over a break in an island and directly onto a spot on the bank he was fishing towards.
