U
nderspins often get pigeon-holed by
many anglers. Kevin Hawk is not one
of them. There is a contingent of anglers
who only think of the bladed dots of lead as cold-water lures. Others only use them for sus-
pended fish. Still others only use them in clear water
or when they’re targeting spotted bass. Their reason-
ing is not wrong. Underspins work great in all of those
situations.
Meanwhile, Hawk sees underspins in a different
light. You might, too, if you won the Forrest Wood Cup
and $500,000 using them … which he did in August …
with water temps far above frigid. So yeah, the former
FLW Tour and BASS Elite Series angler certainly

CHILLY BASICS
Before we start debunking myths, it’s probably best to solidify facts. As stated earlier, suspended fish; cold, clear water; and spotted bass – this is directly in
