as sure as he is about the mermaid sticker, Wellman insists that a banana will never be in his boat, stating, “it’s just bad luck.” as a matter of fact, bananas have a reputation as being the number one nemesis for bass anglers and most will not have them in their boats. anglers have also been known to prank each other by putting bananas in other competitor’s boats to give them bad luck!

While Wellman and Stewart both write off bananas, FlW pro Jay Yelas insists on having one in his boat.
Yelas, from Corvallis, OR and sponsored by Chevrolet/ranger Boats/Mercury outboards, says that a banana is alWaYS in his boat…at least until about 10 a.m. when he eats it! Bananas are his favorite healthy snack. He is also well stocked with Kistler rods, lew’s reels and Punisher lures. as for what he never has in his boat, he will never have carbonated beverages of any kind. “They are not good for the body,” Yelas says. “i only drink water or Gatorade on the boat.” Bananas aside, Stewart will always carry a cell phone, sunblock, sunglasses and rain gear because, “you never know what Mother Nature will throw at you,” he adds.

Jarrett Edwards , sponsored by Ford trucks and Mercury outboards and the host of the tV show Jarrett edwards outdoors, never leaves his Gary Yamamoto Senkos at home. although he hasn’t fished as a Bassmasters elite pro since winning his battle with cancer in 2006, edwards still covers a lot of water and Senkos are a MUSt. He adds, “Senkos can make a good angler into a great angler!” as for what he will never have on his boat, edwards will Not have anchovies on his boat saying, “Striper guys use them where i’m from in Page, aZ, and if they get on you, you can’t get the smell off for a long time!”

as can be seen, bass anglers are a peculiar bunch at times and no matter whether they call it a superstition or a belief, in the end, it really comes down to catching those green and brown fish we affectionately call bass.
