rockets toward the bottom, so a heavy jig head is important. A ¾-oz head also transmits better than a lighter head, so it’s easier to tell what type of hard bottom I’m fishing.

I’ve learned bass will relate to specific hard bottom areas, like a shell bed, no bigger than the size of the front deck of my boat. Once I feel my bait lose contact with the shell bed it becomes difficult to get bit, so when I’m no longer in the strike zone I reel in and make another cast.

I always want to be fishing around the fish and the heavy jig head allows me to keep my Senko on the sweet spot.
