It seems so easy and everyone can tell you how to do it and everybody can watch it on TV; but when you’re in the moment with the pressure, it is not that easy. That’s just part of competition and sport. I finished 78th and that dropped me down to 36 in AOY points.
QUICK BREAK BEFORE TEXAS FEST
We got home last night and had one night in our own bed, after three weeks on the road. It was nice.
The rest will be short as it is time to get ready for Bassmaster Texas Fest at Lake Travis in Jonestown. This is like a mini-Classic. It is not as big as the Classic; but its bigger and more dramatic than a regular Elite Series event.
I enjoy that we get to do the MLF style format of fishing in this event. It is fun to switch up and do something different at this one. I also enjoy helping the conservation part of the event with the Texas Parks and Rec and everything they do for fish stocking, habitat and improving fisheries. We really look forward to it.
The research that I’ve done on Travis tells me it is a baron lake, without a lot of cover. It seems like a Carolina-rig and a lizard on rocky banks would be a good presentation. I am looking forward to fishing the new Yamamoto Cowboy here.
My son has another High School tournament about an hour away at Neeley Henry. We will drive back and forth and do that practice and the event Thursday and Friday. Saturday, we will get on the road for Texas and be there to start practice Monday morning for Texas Fest.
We quick follow that with the make-up on Sabine. I fell like that could be a super-hot time in June; but I feel the river will be stable and the fish will be settled after the flooding and conditions that postponed the event. Except for this stop at the Sabine, I think the rest of the season will be geared to offshore structure and I’m really looking forward to using my Lowrance Carbon HDS-12 with the new FishReveal. I think it will really be the ticket. FishReveal really helps separate the fish from the structure, even when they are hiding in the cover. Before FishReveal that wasn’t possible. The technology for this lights up the fish in a different color, which could really be a game-changer.
I am also looking forward to using the C-Map. It gives a lot more details to previous mapping software with constant updates.
BEFORE ICAST
When the Texas events wrap up, it will just about be time for ICAST.
I’ve been working on a rod since last year and it should be introduced at ICAST. It is my 5th rod in the Daiwa Elite Signature Series lineup. It is a 7’2” universal rod and is made from the blank of the Steez ® Fle-X-Lite rod. It has a medium- heavy backbone in the center. It is light with a fast tip. It is a good spinnerbait rod, medium crankbait rod, topwater rod and a good universal rod overall.
