case, a zoom in / zoom out bar, a Waypoint button and the power button. The LSS-2 Structure Scan that you add to the HDS Gen 2 Key Pad models retails for $599.00. Half of the cost is for the module and cables and the other half is for the Structure Scan transducer. The Structure Scan module needed by the Key Pad models to have Structure Scan is built into the Touch screen models; so you only need to purchase a Structure Scan transducer to enjoy Structure Scan views of left, right and down scan. The first big advantage to the HDS Gen 2 Touch models you will notice when compared to the HDS Gen 2 Key Pad units is the speed in which changes can be made. With the touch of your finger you can change the pages you are viewing like changing from a full Sonar screen to a split screen with Chart, Sonar and Structure for example. You don’t need to do a series of button pushes to make the changes. Another plus to the Gen 2 is that these units are fast. My experimentation with the HDS Gen 2 7 Touch unit shocked me with how fast the map refreshes as you zoom in and out and how quickly the page loaded with the touch of a finger. To get started with the Touch units the first thing to do is to hit the Pages button at the top right side of the unit. This will take you to the Page/Menu screen where you navigate to make page choices, choose preset customized screens and menus.

and let up this will take you to what Lowrance calls “Quick Splits”.

Under each icon are up to six preset screens to choose from for quick page changes. On the left side of the “Pages” screen is where you will find a touch menu that will take you to Waypoints, Trails, Tides, Files, Settings and more. On the right side of this screen are ten boxes where you can customize your preset screen options. These are preset screen combinations that you set up for quick changes of the screen to the layout that you use most. Just touch the screen of your choice and you are instantly viewing that screen. When you first get your new Gen 2 Touch you will need to create these screen choices. To start this process touch where the word “More” is located at the bottom of the five screens you see on the right side. This will open up the ten preset screens you have available.

In this screenshot you will see the icons labeled Chart, Sonar, Structure and so on. If you touch the Sonar icon for example a full Sonar page pops up instantly. If you place your finger on one of these icons and hold it there for about three seconds
