SmALL BAIT, BIG BITE

When cold water necessitates a small- and-slow strategy you don’t necessarily have to give up the gripping power of a large hook. Pre-rigging your flipping hooks with daiichi Hitchikers, or your favorite pin or coil bait holder, will enable you to flip a small bait on a big hook.

STIck IT TO ‘Em

a fan of big texas-rigged worms, Scroggins came up with a method of keeping his bait in place. to prevent his worm from sliding down and bunching on the hook shank, Scroggins pulls the hook eye inside the head of the worm, runs a toothpick into the worm and through the hook eye. He then snips the toothpick level with the worm for a neat package that stays in place while he’s fishing.

SkIRTInG THE ISSuE

elite pro Gary Klein finds that double skirting a spinnerbait provides additional buoyancy and enables the bait to run higher in the water column – especially helpful when fishing blades across the tops of vegetation. This also creates a larger profile that stands out more in stained water. Klein likes to trim his jig skirts to a bristly finish for a “blossoming” affect in the water. adding a second skirt allows him to achieve that bristly appearance, while maintaining a bulky presence.
