Delta - West Delta Continues to Improve

2004-09-15 Jack Chapman, Sacramento CSBA

The Fall Run of stripers seems to be slowly moving into the area joining our resident population. Our members that fish the bay report fish are being caught in San Pablo Bay by the Brothers and Sisters, in the Hamilton Flats, Napa River and Benicia. While the fishing is not wide open most members are getting at least a fish a rod. Our chapter’s striper expert, Mark Wilson, reports, “went striper trolling with me today down on the Old Dairy below Rio Vista. We only got to troll for a couple of hours, then we got blown off. Man do I hate the WIND!!! But, in those two hours we had around 10 hits for five keeper stripers at 19", 20", 8#, 9#, and 13#. A real short day for us.” Another of our members reports, “Went trolling down Rio Vista way today. I was hoping that Mark left some for the rest of us. I only managed 5 stripers to 6 pounds. It took me a while to figure out that my best Rainbow bomber had water in it and was not running properly. … I think I wasted a lot of time with a bad lure.”
