Delta - Stripers surge into the Delta

The bass bite has been improving day by day, especially in the Southern Delta. I have received a numbers of reports of a “nice steady pick of 8-10 lb stripers today trolling broken back rebels in various parts of the south delta (Old River)” and “…went striper trolling with me today down below Rio Vista. It was a frustrating day for all of us. A lot of action and a lot of lost fish, including one big one that went into a snag (got the lure back with the net) and one big one that broke off a "fish catching" Rebel. There were several other nice fish lost too, which they just managed to pull loose at various stages of the fight. Anyway, we lost at least two limits of keeper stripers and wound up catching 4 shaker stripers and 9 keeper stripers to 6 pounds. All keeper fish caught were between 6# and 4#”.

Tracy Oasis hosted a special peoples fishing day where Dan Mathisen Outdoors got to take Joe out for a few hours and catch some fish. As the tide got ready to change I asked Joe if he wanted to catch some stripers, and for the next hour he did, breaking a couple off and landing 4 beauties like this 13 pounder. Not counting the several rod jarring pounces. Yet when we are not pounding the stripers, Salmon are willing here are yesterday mornings catch of limits from just down the road.
