New Estimate Shows Healthy Mille Lacs Smallmouth Population
Since the late 1990s, Mille Lacs Lake has become an increasingly popular destination for anglers who want to catch trophy-sized smallmouth bass. Until now, it wasn’t known how many of these fish – prized more for their fight than their fillets – called the lake home. A population estimate completed in 2018 shows there are some 67,000 smallmouth bass in the 128,000-acre lake.

Annual Young-of-Year Survey Tracks Spawning of State FishResults of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources 2017 young-of-year striped bass survey in the Chesapeake Bay shows the fish is reproducing in strong numbers. The annual survey's index is 13.2 fish, above the 64-year average of 11.7.

Trout Unlimited praised the final Colorado Water Plan unveiled last week by the Colorado Water Conservation Board, saying that it recognizes the key role that healthy rivers and streams play in sustaining the state's economy and quality of life.
