Brownlie goes wire-to-wire in Lake Havasu tour stop

LAKE HAVASU CITY—Scott Brownlie of Apple Valley went wire to wire in capturing the season opener on the WON BASS Tour at Lake Havasu. His two day catch of 26.11 pounds gave him a comfortable margin over Brian Nollar of Homer, Alaska, who finished with 22.16 pounds.

For his catch, Brownlie won the $20,000 cash prize, his second straight success on the popular reservoir. Brownlie’s cause was aided by AAA partner Ken Marchand of San Bernardino on day two who busted a 4.87-pound largemouth on a spinnerbait and another 4-pound smallmouth on a plastic worm.

In third place among pros was Shaun Bailey of Agoura Hills who weighed over 15 pounds on the final day to close the gap with his 21.87 pounds. Doug Riha, of Thousand Oaks, whose second day sack of 16.62 pounds was the heaviest of the tournament, took fourth with 21.84.

Touring pro Thanh Le of La Havasu City, finished fifth with 20.49 pounds.

Jerry Baker of Apple Valley topped the AAA ranks with 19.72 pounds in front of Marchand, taking home $1200.

Jim Sims of Lake Havasu City, Scott Sweet of Chatsworth and Bradley Yang of Los Angeles rounded out the top 5 AAA’s.
