Chin & Lee Dominate WON Castaic Lake Field

In what can only be described as brute force, John Chin of Fullerton and Daniel Lee of Fountain Valley topped a field of 59 teams with a huge limit of bass weighing 26.02 pounds to capture their first ever WON BASS Southern California Region team tournament title at Castaic Lake on December 9th. Saying only that they caught their fish early in the morning on tailspins, the pair beat their nearest competitors by nearly seven pounds. Included in their phenomenal limit were two fish over seven pounds, one of which weighing 7.83 pounds and good enough for big bass of the contest. That fish helped the pair to a total of $4,975 in winnings. Lee also received a brand new Huddleston Deluxe ROF-12 swimbait for his big bass.

Runners up at the Castaic Lake tournament were Noah Cook of Boron and Jess Settem of Simi Valley with an excellent limit weighing 19.25 pounds. The pair said that all of their fish came on Persuader reaction baits. For their efforts, Cook and Settem walked away with $1,875 in winnings.

Third place went to the father/son team of DeLynn and Steve Davies of North Edwards with a limit weighing in at 16.80 pounds. Steve told the audience that they caught their fish on reaction baits and dropshotting. The pair had a nice 6.05 pounder in their sack, the second largest bass of the tournament. That big bass helped Team Davies to a total of $1,360 in winnings.

Finishing in fourth place was the team of Cliff Gregory of Quartz Hills and Richard Smith of Santa Clarita with a limit weighing 15.89 pounds and good for $660. Fifth place went to defending Anglers of the Year Frank King of La Habra and Jim Olivarez of Anaheim with a limit weighing 14.85 pounds earning them $510.

Winning the very popular Ten Pound Option was the father/son team of Dale and Bryan Jennings of Burbank, whose 5-fish limit was the nearest to 10.00 pounds without going over. Their 9.53 pound limit earned them $900. The total cash payout for the December 9th Castaic Lake tournament was an outstanding $11,765.

On the 59 teams entered in the December 9th Castaic Lake tournament, all but five brought fish to the scales. There were a total of 216 fish weighed in for a total weight of 498.28 pounds. This figures out to be a per fish average weight of 2.31 pounds. All but one of the 216 fish weighed in were released alive, a 99.5% survival rate. There were thirty 5-fish limits posted in the contest.
