CITGO Renews BASS Sponsorship Through 2009

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – BASS, the worldwide authority on bass fishing, and CITGO Petroleum Corporation announced today CITGO has renewed its sponsorship with BASS through 2009.

CITGO has been a BASS sponsor since 2001 and the new contract extends CITGO’s core sponsorship programs. CITGO is the title sponsor for all CITGO Bassmaster Tour and Open events. CITGO will remain the title sponsor of bass fishing’s world championship, the CITGO Bassmaster Classic. Last year they became title sponsor of the $311,550 CITGO Bassmaster Angler of the Year program which will continue. In addition, CITGO will become the Official Fuel of BASS along with maintaining exclusive product sponsorships in the diesel fuel, motor oil and lubricant categories.

“BASS is an excellent organization for CITGO to partner with and we are pleased to continue our sponsorship,” said Luis Marín, President and CEO of CITGO. “CITGO understands the needs of the tournament angler and outdoor enthusiast. They use gasoline and lubricants at a higher rate than the average consumer and the BASS sponsorship allows CITGO to support them and their lifestyle.”

Lance Peck, Manager, Outdoor Sports Marketing for CITGO, said, "BASS continues to provide a valued partnership to help CITGO reach the outdoor enthusiast. This is a very important consumer segment to us and BASS helps us reach this group and continue to build loyalty among them.”

Dean Kessel, Vice President, BASS Operations, said CITGO’s leadership in the bass marketplace has brought fresh attention to the sport’s opportunities for non-endemic sponsors.

“We are very excited to continue our relationship with CITGO,” said Kessel. “CITGO has been a great partner with BASS and this continues to show their commitment to growing the sport of bass fishing. CITGO has been a loyal supporter of tournament anglers and the sport of bass fishing for many years and we are very excited to extend our relationship with them for another four years.”

BASS is the world's largest fishing organization, sanctioning more than 20,000 tournaments worldwide through its Federation. The CITGO Bassmaster Tournament Trail presented by Busch Beer, which includes the Bassmaster Elite 50 series, is the oldest and most prestigious pro bass fishing tournament circuit and continues to set the standard for credibility, professionalism and sportsmanship as it has since 1968.
