Lake Pleasant final stop on WON BASS Southern Tour

Peoria, AZ – The Southern WON BASS Pro-AAA circuit will me making its final stop of the 2006 season on April 8-9 at the Lake Pleasant Open. The headquarters hotel for this event will be the Ramada Inn in Peoria while the launch site will be the Pleasant Harbor Marina.

In addition to Pro anglers competing for a guaranteed top prize of $20,000 cash courtesy of Mercury Marine, they will also be settling the “Southern Angler of the Year” race. Anglers competing in the Pleasant tournament will receive double points for their finish at this tournament. Participation points will remain at 15 for this event. The “Southern Angler of the Year” will be awarded a fully rigged Ranger 185VS boat and trailer outfitted with a Mercury OptiMax 175hp outboard, Lowrance electronics, MotorGuide trolling motor and more. This prize package is valued at $30,000.

The AAA Southern Angler of the Year points race will also be decided with the top AAA angler receiving a $5,000 check for their top finish. Points at this event are also doubled. In addition to the regular cash payouts on both the Pro and AAA side, Pro anglers can win an additional $3,000 in Ranger Cup cash if they are a registered Ranger Cup participant and win the Lake Pleasant Open. $1,500 will be up for grabs to the highest finishing Ranger Cup Pro should a non-Ranger Cup angler finish first.

MotorGuide will also be providing a $500 contingency award should the winner possess a MotorGuide trolling motor on their tournament winning rig. Both Jeffrey Michaels and Larry Marquez, winners of the Lake Shasta and Lake Havasu Opens, were able to take advantage of this award as both ran a MotorGuide’s on the bow of their Ranger boats.

Additionally, with the inclusion of General Tires as a WON BASS Sponsor, anglers who have a set of General AT2, General UHP, or General HP tires on their tow vehicle will be eligible for a $500 contingency award. Fishermen who are running factory OEM Continental tires on their tow vehicle will receive a check for $100.

Anglers will also accrue points to be used for year end points races such as the $10,000 Daiwa Cup for the Pros and the Mercury Cup which will give the AAA champion a new 150hp OptiMax motor.

Anglers who sign up for the Pleasant event will receive goodie bags at the check-in and have the opportunity to win an additional $500 from Markey’s Spinnerbaits via a “find the ball” contest. Five baskeballs worth $100 each will be scattered throughout the lake on Saturday. Find one and bring it back to the scales with you and Markey Daniels from Markey’s Spinnerbaits will give you $100.

WON BASS uses a shared weight format that encourages cooperation between both anglers on the boat. The Pro angler retains control of the boat and determines fishing locations and techniques while the AAA angler contributes to the overall catch. Anglers share the 5 fish limit weight for each day. Pro and AAA anglers change partners each day of competition.

Entry fees remain at $500 for pro anglers and $225 for AAA fishermen with $2,300 worth of daily Big Bass awards included in your entry fees. Other options such as a $50 big stringer and $100 high roller option are also available for those who chose to enter. Deadline to enter for the Lake Pleasant event is Tuesday, April 4th at 12 noon.
