Ryan Hall Powering into a New Season

The new fishing season is just around the corner, and BAM Super 60 pro Ryan Hall is gearing up for a new year with some fisheries on the schedule that he's never visited before. During this downtime late in the year, Hall and other tournament anglers are planning and organizing all of their gear, from tackle to boats and other equipment. One significant change Hall is going to make is to adjust his battery selection to a new configuration that fits his boat and fishing style.

Fitting a Need

One major shift in recent years was anglers switching from older battery types to lithium batteries. This significant change has opened up the possibility of customization to fit just about any configuration you can imagine. Some of it comes down to your electronics, trolling motor, and other equipment, but it also depends on the specific boat and how it is laid out.

"One change I am making this year is to switch to a different battery configuration since I got a different boat," said Hall. "I'm still running Bionenno batteries, but instead of three 12-volt batteries for my trolling motor and one for my electronics, I'm going to switch to two 36V, 30Ah LFP batteries. The space in the back of my Skeeter is tighter than I anticipated and smaller than the Ranger I had before, so they fit in there tight, but I was able to make it work last season."

Now he will change it up to just two batteries, freeing up some space. "I wanted some room back there to have a spare prop, and because they are 36volts, I'm not losing out on any power," he said. "That's one of the biggest things about lithium batteries is you can find different sizes and cases with different configurations, so you can optimize what you need for the space you have in your boat and can pretty much do whatever you want."

One of these batteries will be dedicated to his trolling motor, and the other will power all his electronics, giving him more than enough power for both.

"I run three screens and the forward-facing sonar transducer and have plenty of power, even though all of those 12-inch screens will draw significant power. You have more than enough to get through a long day," he said. "Those Bioenno batteries are also very powerful for your trolling motor and keeping you running strong through a long day of fishing, and I'm one of the hardest on my batteries since I fish the Delta so much. You have winds and trolling against the tides all day, and that can put a pretty good whooping on batteries, and they hold up to that."

Looking Ahead to 2026

The BAM Super 60 will visit different fisheries in 2026, and Hall is excited because some of them will be brand new to him. He's also looking forward to improving on his showing last year, his first season with the unique Super 60 format, which tallies both keeper count and total pounds on the first two days before switching to a traditional best-five bass weight on the final day.

"I want another crack at it, and it's great because there are a few places I've never been, like Brownlee and Havasu," he said. "That will be great to have some new fisheries on the schedule, for me at least, and I've been to Don Pedro and the Columbia River one time. I'm looking forward to the new schedule and to having a chance to get back out there and prove myself against some of the best anglers on the West Coast."

One thing that will stay the same is his running Bionenno batteries. "I've been running them for five years now with multiple different configurations for my trolling motor and electronics, and I've never had one issue," he said.

Hall also likes the reliability and how quickly his batteries charge after a day of fishing. "For those curious about lithium and wanting to upgrade, one of the biggest positives is the longevity as well as the reliability, plus they charge super fast," he said. "There are a lot of lithium battery companies popping up, but Bionenno has been around for many years in other industries, and they offer the best warranty out there: 20 years. They are well established and not going anywhere, so you know the warranty will be there if you ever need it."

The new tournament season is almost here and anglers everywhere are preparing and getting ready for the new year. Super 60 angler Ryan Hall is in that group and will be prepared, with a new battery setup, for the first tournament.
