The Berryessa Bass Tournaments Family had a fun weekend at the TOC! Started out Saturday night with a monstrous feast of Roasted Chicken, BBQ Ribs, and Charbroiled Tri-Tip in a private dining hall at the Buckhorn Restauarant and there were T-Shirts & Hats for all. Then there was the event inside of the event, TOC & AOY were being decided! Thanks to the 22 Teams that fished the 3rd Annual Pasote & Berryessa Bass Tournaments Circuit for the 2017-2018 Season Tournament of Champins! AOY race worked out that the TOC points were going to decide AOY! We had an early clear, cool and safe blast off with 3 flights, including 3 youth teams. There was no wind at the lake at blast off and a little breeze at weigh-in again. The lake was fishing pretty tough for big fish for some, but some teams got a hog, most teams couldn’t get their kicker. Lots of teams struggled for that TOC sack of a day! In the Youth Division, First Place ($100 River2Sea) with 16.39lbs & a 6.10lb 2nd Place Big Fish went to Matthew Dettling. In Second Place ($60 River2Sea), Joe Rosen weighed a sack of 11.80lbs. Third Place ($40 River2Sea) with 10.30lbs went to Dario Fernandez and Gavin Cohen. The bite has been pretty tough unless you find a feeding school on a bait ball or a few just chewing! It’s the typical bite for this time of year, all about timing, you have to be at the right spot when the fish are feeding. Teams reported catching some better fish at 20’ – 40’ feet, and I had to fizz them as well! Water temps are into the 70’s range with the water clarity fairly clear to murky. Teams reported catching their fish on Spoons, Frogs, Shakeyhead, Jigs, Nail, and Top Water. Most teams are fishing main body of the lake from shallow to deep. Use your strength patterns! Matt Hamilton and Scott Smith did, just like they have been doing all year, fishing consistant! Matt and Scott ending up capturing the Pasote Tequila & Berryessa Bass Tournaments Anglers of the 2017-2018 Year!!! AOY winners receive $450 Cash / 2019 Markley Cove Launch Pass / Trip for 2 on the Sea Wolf Charter Boat / Dobyns Rod Certificates / Wax as U Clean / Lil Larry Pocket Light by Todd’s Custom Rod Art / $200 Berryessa Boat Repair lower unit maintenance repair. PJ Bruggeman & John Pearl also fished their strengths and cashed in a Bonus $100 for a 10lb plus fish. That fished anchored their sack to win the TOC and trip to Kauai for Peacock Bass fishing! The Pasote Tequila & Berryessa Bass Tournaments Tournament of Champions is PJ Bruggeman and John Pearl with a great sack that weighed 20.88lbs and was anchored with a 10.38lb kicker for 1st Place Big Fish! Second Place went to Dave Raper and Rick Hawley who brought in a sack that weighed 20.06lbs, not quite enough for Back to Back trips to Kauai! Third Place went to Bob and Mattew Dettling with a sack that weighed 16.39lbs and a 6.10lb kicker for 2nd Place Big Fish. With a Fourth Place finish, Matt Hamilton and Scott Smith weighed in 16.00lbs. In Fifth Place, a sack of 15.64lbs was weighed in by Frank Ono and Billy Hines. Mike Nichelini and Carl Keller grabbed 6th Place with 13.09lbs. This is the Tenth tournament in a row that at least one of our youth teams has been in the money! Every tournament in the 2017 – 2018 season there was a youth team in the money! Keep it up Youths – You are our FUTURE!
