Duel HDS5's

Post by Brad Davis »

I have a HDSX and HDS5 on the console, I have a HDS5 on the bow. Can these units be connected together? Can I use the HDSX to display GPS on the bow mounted HDS5? Tks, Brad

Kan-o is correct, the HDS 5x is a sonar unit only so no GPS data can be viewed on this unit. The HDS 5's you have are sonar and GPS units so you will have GPS at the console and the bow. If you want to share GPS information between the two HDS 5's then you will need to network them together with a NMEA backbone

Can you explain the nmea backbone? Is it as simple as a connecting cord?

Click on the first link below to see how the backbone is configured. The second link is a more detailed explanation of a NMEA 2000 backbone/network.
