Elite DS thru hull?

Post by Tarpon120 »

It's time to upgrade my old Cuda, I'm looking at a Lowrance Elite DS. I like the looks of this unit, but don't see any option for thru-hull installations. I fish from a kayak and need a thru-hull xducr as I don't want to make some sort of ghetto contraption to hang it over the side! So my questions are;

- can the xducr currently being shipped with the unit be used in thru-hull?
- if so, will the returns be negatively affected?
- if no, are there plans for a thru-hull application in the future, or should I look at other ff's?

Thanks...........

I'm thinking you are talking about the Elite 5 DSI? The transducer can not be mounted inside a hull. As far as future options, we'll have to wait and see. The only option at this time is for that "ghetto contraption" for now. It would be worth it for the view of the bottom structure you will get.

Thanks for your prompt response Ken. Yeah, I'm talking about the Elite 5 DSI. Nice looking unit, but I'm afraid the lack of thru-hull capabilities is a buzzkill for me. I wonder if the down imaging technology requires direct water to xducer contact or is there just not much of a demand for thru-hull installations?

At any rate, thanks for your help.

It needs water contact to give you a return.
