Exciting Forum News!!

Post by Gator »

For those of you who have been here for a while, you are well aware that we have been looking to improve and upgrade our forum software. Better capabilities, more accountability, etc. Well, we have found the software for the job and are currently working on the implementation.

The new forum software will be faster, more customizable and overall more friendly than what we currently use. It will allow us greater flexibility in forum usage, while also allowing greater control over the contents.

What does this mean for our users? First and foremost, it will allow you to enjoy the forums in a new way. There are several user features available in this software package that make it more enjoyable. The biggest change is that you will have to register with a vaild email address. There is a validation process that takes place through email which requires it. This is a one time registration.

You can still view the forums without registering but will not be able to access any of the features, such as posting, contacting a poster, etc.

We will make a formal announcement prior to the switch. All other areas of the site will remain the same as they are currently.

When we do the switchover, there will be a slight downtime on the forums. This should be minimal and will be done at an off-peak time.

If you have any questions regarding this changeover, feel free to email me directly.

I am really looking forward to it. That should control the spammers and drive by shooters.

Can we add a face to our nicknames?

Post by Fishin' Dave »

I've seen some forums where folks can add their picture. For example, we would have "posted by "Gator" with a picture of a Katsup bottle (het it, Hines), or Cooch with a picture of a cuban cigar next to it, and so on...

We are currently deciding if bandwidth and server room will allow avatar use as you describe. Yes, the software is capable of it.

I think Mr. Burns would be good for sTony

hmmm...who else? How about Batman for Dewayne. Maybe Conl. Klink for Jim. Who should be Boss Hogg?
Gator

Well, I can think of a few.....

Post by Gator »

Lets see - if we made sTony Boss Hogg, would that make me Roscoe (forum cop) or Cooter (Forum Mechanic)?? I know that Cooch would be Uncle Jesse (giver of Sage advice).

Hmmm -I think I like the Avatar I am currently testing with....

> That all sounds cool and everything, But I DO have a Keaton "Batman Returns" cowl/mask and have been known to wear it with my Bare rainsuit and black neoprene gloves while piloting the boat! It is very dramatic in the early morning fog.

Getting back to the Dukes, who is going to be the phoney Duke boys that took the helm during contract dispute? No volunteers? If I could have ultimate mock up Nascar style boat it would be a toss up between the Viper tunnel in black for Batman or...A bright orange mock up of the General. The custom carpet on the front deck would bear the flag, and numbers would be on the side. A hurried late launch would have me running from the truck cab to do a scissor hood slide into the boat! Oh yeah, and everywhere it went, with the big motor running it would play the Ballad of the Dukes! Think I could get the Sheriff boat to chase me? How about a few of them? I could cut brodies, and jump their wakes!

HAR!
