No fishing license required

Did you participate in California’s second Free Fishing Day on Sept. 3?
If not, you’re still in luck! When recreationally fishing from certain public piers in ocean or bay waters, a fishing license is not required. Try one of the many free fishing piers, jetties or breakwaters along the California coast for perch, greenling, rockfish and bass!
To help you plan, CDFW has a list of free fishing piers and a zoomable map of pier locations available on our website: https://wildlife.ca.gov/Fishing/Ocean/Beach-Fishing

While a fishing license is not required on a public pier, all other regulations including minimum size, bag limits, report cards and seasons apply. Only two rods and lines, handlines, or nets, traps or other appliances used to take crabs may be used per person.
Additional information on regulations can be found here: https://wildlife.ca.gov/Fishing/Ocean/R ... shing-Regs
