HDS5 VS ELITE 5 DSI

Post by phatfish »

Greetings,

I am about to spend some $$$ on a fish finder but I am confused by the technology. I am a weekend bass fisherman and have a question regarding fish finders.

If you had only one fish finder on your boat and you had to choose between the HDS 5 or the Elite 5 DSI, which fish finder would you purchase and why?

Thanks!

Unfortunately cost is an issue…

Just depends if you think you are ever going to get structure scan or if you ever get another unit and want them to be linked. The HDS can be linked to another HDS or structure scan, the Elite cannot. If you are just looking for a very good GPS/Sonar combo for the front of the boat, the Elite would be fine. The basemap in either unit is pretty basic but if you are not concerned with detailed maps for the bow they should be ok. The HDS has the option of getting Lake Insight for more money with detailed mapping and either unit can take aftermarket Navionics cards for detailed maps.
