Interference on hds7

Interference on hds7
I have a hds 7 gen 1 on my bow. Recently I bought a Fortrex that didn't have us2. I bought a skimmer transducer and used the pipe clamps to mount it to my trolling motor. When I have the motor on 30 or below, and am running the TM, the screen is covered in interference and I can't make out fish. When I'm off the TM, it looks great. Any ideas?

Run a ground wire from the skeg on your trolling motor up the shaft and into the front dash panel.
Connect it to the same ground post that your sonar unit is grounded to.
This has worked the best for me on my last three units.
