San Vicente Lake was overcast with a slight drizzle during the morning time. The sun burned off the overcast skies later in the afternoon. San Vicente Lake is full of big largemouth bass and has the shoreline coved with brush and structure for the largemouth bass to thrive. Every angler in this event had a five fish limit, this definitely states that his fishery is extremely healthy and loaded with sizeable bass willing to eat one’s lures.
Jonathan Demonet captures the win at San Vincente with an impressive 94.75” defeating second place by 2.25”. Demonet did not practice before the event and went with a plan with the big rod with 65-pound braid paired with a creature bait.
“I had no practice coming into this event and knew the lake was at full pool.” stated Demonet, “My plan was to use one rod all day and flip shallow cover.”
“I knew that the field was going to live scoop the deeper trees, so I wanted to do something different than the rest of the field.” expressed Demonet, “I had the attitude that I was going to win this event or not catch a fish.”
“I was using an ounce and a half weight punching grass and thick brush.” indicated Demonet, “I never put that rod down all day.”
“I caught around 18 fish, lost a few, and caught a few I probably should have not caught.” specified Demonet, “It was just my day and it worked out for me.”
“I was targeting 3 to 8-feet of water.” stipulated Demonet, “The steeper banks were the key compared to the slower tapering banks.”
“I was keying in on the deeper water with the green brush.” announced Demonet, “These areas had more and bigger fish.”
“The Berkey Chigger Craw was my most productive bait during the event.” vocalized Demonet, “Once the sun came out, I never caught a fish that helped me cull up.”
Demonet thanked American Bass, Anglers Marine and his family for all their support.
Adam Garcia was runner up with a total of 92.50”. Garcia started the day off throwing a small swim bait, catching a small limit quickly. He changed to a power shot covering shallow structure to cull up to his second-place finish.
“I caught a quick limit on a Keitech but it was only around 70”, pronounced Garcia, “I switched up to a power shot and kept that rod in my hand the rest of the day.”
“I was power shotting a creature bait with 14-pound test from 6 to 12-feet deep.” declared Garcia, “The small swim bait, I caught fish in 30 to 40-feet of water.”
“I was keying in on brush or any moving water.” stated Garcia, “I kept changing up with the creature baits to help cull up.”
“I had my limit before 11:30 AM and after that I was not able to catch anything bigger then 16”.”
Garcia thanked his brother, and mom and dad for all their support.
Anthony Garcia finished in third place with 91.50”. Garcia knew going into this event that the fish would be mostly in the post spawn stage. He started off throwing rip bait but found the fish willing to bite small, so he switched up to a drop shot and went shallow.
“I caught a 17” and a 19” pretty quick once I went shallow with the drop shot.” expressed Garcia, “I knew then that was going to be the deal to do well in this event.”
“I was fishing supper shallow.” conveyed Garcia, “The lake was full and there was a ton of brush along the shoreline.”
“I was keying in on the brush that was just a little farther from the shore.” indicated Garcia, “The brush was just a little different from the rest of the brush, so I targeted that brush.”
“I was drop shotting a 6” Robo worm straight tail worm in the Aaron’s Magic and Morning dawn colors.” declared Garcia, “I fished clean and never lost a fish because I went to a lighter wire hook that helped me keep the fish pinned.”
Garcia thanked his girlfriend Amanda for all her support and his family for all their support as well. Garcia thanked all his sponsors that have helped him throughout these years. A big shout out to the fire fighters at Engine 23 for all their support. “Congratulations to my younger brother for taking second place!”
