Lake McClure – A homecoming victory for Jeremy Choffel & Jay Fieber - aka. Team “Double J”

About 8 years ago on a fall afternoon at Lake McClure while setting up for weigh-in, a young man fishing from the bank near the launch ramp approached me and politely inquired as to what we were doing.

After receiving the rundown, he had two simple but direct questions: 1) How much weight does it normally take to win and event, and 2) are competitors required to have a “fancy” bass boat to enter. The very next year, when the new season began, that same young man was standing at the sign-in table, entry fee in hand, ready to launch his 8’ rubber – Zodiac style boat, and start competing.

Fast forward some 8 years later, and that same young man - Jeremy Choffel, along with team partner Jay Fieber (aka. Team “Double J)”, are now making statements to the bass fishing world that study, time on the water, and a ton of perseverance, will trump boat size - any day of the week, as this past weekend they turned in a command performance to capture their 2nd Coors Light Future Pro Tour title at Lake McClure – a lake they both call home.

“This is a dream come true, and a long time coming as we know the competition in FPT events is fierce, and it takes a lot of hard work to win just one FPT event “, Jeremy noted. We pre-fished very hard for this event, and in practice, found good fish holding on long tapered points – that had a cluster of boulders on the end, in about 25 feet of water. All day long we threw R2sea jigs, and dropshots”, he added.

15.71 was the winning weight as they narrowly edged out the veteran team of Rick Rush and Brad Trimble, (who brought in a 2nd place weight of 15.05) but crushed the rest of the 60 boat field.

For the victory they received $2,250 dollars and two beautiful plaques.

Jay and Jeremy won an addditional $500 dollars for being Talon oweners!

And for the record… after many years of taking the time to learn the basics of bass fishing, for this year, Jeremy and Jay upgraded their fishing platform, and now fish out of a new 17’ aluminum Bass Tracker!

Josh Parris wins Coors Light “Silver Bullet AOY title” – flying solo

RBBassfishing.net field staffer Josh Paris – flying solo, was able to hold off two other tough teams, and will go down as only the second angler in FPT history to win the coveted Coors Light “Silver Bullet” Angler of the Year in both the central and northern regions. Congratulations Josh – again, on a title well deserved!

That wraps up what was a very fun and exciting 15th anniversary season for the Coors Light Future Pro Tour, and we wish to thank all of our partnering sponsors and participating anglers for their unwavering support, which continues to help make the Coors Light Future Pro Tour the premier – and most exciting, amateur level bass fishing circuit in the west.

And as we close down for the year, we wish all of you a very safe and happy holiday season!
