Livewell Problem??

Post by Nervous Norris »

Watching a tournament weigh-in you notice that one individual, who seems to have caught bigger than average fish, might have a problem with his livewell.

Everyone at the weigh-in has brightly colored smallmouth just in from 56 degree water on a cold day. What kind of livewell problem would cause just this guys larger fish to be faded to a milky yellow color, while some of his fish, caught in the same area remained bright and fresh?

You wouldn't think it to be an oxygen problem, would you? Didnt notice anyone else having this problem. Ideas?

thx

Old age? Exposure to dye or other livewell chemicals? Sunburn? Albino fish? Cyanosis? Cancer? Renal failure? Chameleon? Genetics? Extreme fear and related anxiety?

Some fish chemicals are known to turn fish lips blue after exposure. Blue dye (Methylene blue) is usually the culprit when you see blue fish. That is the dye that gives livewell water that "Tidy Bowl" blue discoloration so commonlt seen with fish saver chemicals. It might turn your lips blue to if you ate that dyed blew lipped fish, but that's someone else's nightmare, the next fisherman that catched that recycled bass can deal with that issue. Personally, I would not eat any fish with blue lips for fear of injesting the Methylene Blue dye imbeded in the fish's tissue.

That dye is a known and documented carcinogen for people, men, women and especially children.
