News for launching at Lake Berryessa. It currently shows no appointments available, however, check back often as they are opening up more appointments soon - most likely in the next week or so.
Effective November 25, 2024, USBR has implemented new protocols for boat launching at Lake Berryessa.
Apparently these Golden Mussels are much worse that any of the other species and the agencies are taking it very seriously as if they contaminate the lakes there will be huge repercussions.
Talking with Solano County Water District (today Nov 27) they are building four new decontamination units and will place them around the lake. Currently Steele Canyon is the only place to decon. Markley should be one of first with a new decon unit which could open in then next couple weeks. Then other ramps like Spanish Flats will have them as fast as they can build them.
An issue they have, most of their personnel are college students who have now gone back to school and they are looking for more help.
Any vessel wishing to launch must be inspected, logged into the WID system and a RED quarantine seal shall be applied for 30 days, and the vessel will not be permitted to launch at that time. The seal must remain intact, and the vessel will not have been launched in any other waterbody during the quarantine period.
Vessels that have finished the 30-day quarantine may return to the lake and have the seal removed by authorized staff (e.g. SCWA, USBR, or Concessionaire) and will be allowed to launch.
Any vessel wishing to launch sooner than the required 30-day quarantine period must have a hot-water decontamination performed by an approved entity. These vessels are allowed to launch immediately following decontamination. Should a vessel be decontaminated at another facility or by another entity, that decontamination will not be valid unless a seal is applied to the vessel and documentation is provided.

Re: News for launching at Lake Berryessa
So the directive at the Solano Water site does not really explain what type of "seal" one might expect to receive if decontaminating at another location outside of Lake Berryessa. Does Solano Co. have some type of reciprocal agreement with other jurisdictions? Coming from Lake County, they do inspections and decontaminations, however they would probably tell me they don't issue "seals" after doing so. This because their process is designed for Lake County waters only. Wouldn't a copy of your inspection/decon paperwork be sufficient?

Wouldn't drive thru or back in dip tanks full of mussel killing solution solve this problem?

Re: News for launching at Lake Berryessa
I don’t know. It seems to me if it is spread in a drop of water the various animals will move it everywhere
They tell us it’s moved as a microorganism in a drop
If that is not true then a visual inspection makes more sense
At new Melones and other common sense waters they use dogs to sniff your boat out
I can’t believe a dog can sense a microscopic organism
With the type of people in power you won’t get a logical nor a reasonable solution.
Instead you will follow ridiculous rules of over reach such as 6 feet apart and a mask or be locked out
