Jig rod?

Post by dockboy »

Wazup fellow nutcases! I need some opinions on jig rods. I'm tired of using a flipping stick for jigs whenever I go to Castaic or Piru. So I've been looking around for a rod to fish jigs. I use a 1/2oz AT LEAST, usually prefer a 3/4 or 1. I've been looking around. My price limit is about $150-170 max. The options I like at the moment are'
Daiwa Tough & Light 7' hvy
Shimano Crucial 7' hvy
Okuma Guide Series 7' hvy
Powell 7' hvy ( not sure about the model #)
So what do you guys use/ suggest?

Dude I had the same problem. Not only do you need to find one that performs the way you like you need to get one that will boost your confidence on jig rods. I have one and only one jig rod that kicks butt and it's a Powel 765. Awesome rod man!

I had a Powell 735 until I donated it to 35' of water last december....the rod was nice for 1/2oz and heavier but pretty stout for the lighter fare...I still have my Kistler Helium LTA HE70MH which is nice and light and sensitive but shorter than I prefer. I bought a 7' Loomis IMX 844. I really dig it for 3/8-3/4 jigs its a very light rod and is super versatile I've thrown everything from blades, traps, and carolina rigs on it and it casts for days! some guys over at bass resource gave it steller reviews and also a link to a nice dealer on ebay with even better prices!

If you purchased a G. Loomis 843 or 844 IMX, you won't be disappointed. The 843 is a medium action - 7 ft all around rod that fishes light to pretty heavy baits. The 844 is my favorite and I use it at all my big fish lakes - day and night - because you never know what you will hook, expecially early and late in the day. My clients love the 843!!!!

I know everybody probably gets tired of me always saying Skeet Reese or Lamiglas BUT the Lamiglas Skeet Reese SR704C is an AWESOME jig rod....I believe TackleWarehouse.com has them for like $ 139.00. Unless you in a BIG hurry you might consider waiting a month or so for Dobyns rods to debut-I have heard nothing but excellent reports about ALL the rods he has coming out and lets face it if anybody knows what a rod needs to have it'd be Dobyns!Tight Lines

I looked over the Lami the same time as I did the Shimao and I went with the Shimano because the Lami was to stiff for me and the guides seemed better placed on the Shimano. I ended up with the Shimano CRCX76MH 7'6" MH XFast and tossed jigs with it from shore today into pilings working back into rocks for an hour.

With 40# braid I could even feel the jig sliding over the roufgh surface of the rocks some 18- 22 feet out. I tried the same with the same line on a Team Diawa rod that was alot less in price that I purchased yesterday. It was night and day the difference and feeling for jig fishing between the two.

I believe I got the Shimano for around $149 at Gene's shop- and the Lami was up near $179.
You know, we always called each other goodfellas. Like, you'd say to somebody: "You're gonna like this guy; he's all right. He's a goodfella. He's one of us." You understand? We were goodfellas, wiseguys.

Rogue 704 GH. If a fish f@rts when it swims by, I feel it. @$229 retail, it's less than the GLoomis, which btw also fishes real nice. It just isn't as sensitive as a Rogue with the graphite handle.
It's just a beating.....till you fight back.

Love my Rogue MBH 706c for 1/2oz. to 1oz. For the lighter jigs my MBH 704c is AWESOME. Extremly sensitive and very light. They have great spinning rods too!!!
I have also fished with Steve Biechman's coustom rods, and they are simply amazing.
