weekend bass shows, Dee Thomas is and always will be, the greatest flipper in the world..I keep hearing these shows promote someone as the best flipper out there or in the world right now...Make no mistake about it, the guy who invented it, is the "Best of the Best"...For second, I would go with Gliebe....Also, a big congratulations again to Mike Reynolds...Dee always said, that guy was a master at finding fish...Nice going Mike, you wrapped em' good...Nice clinic!...Maybe a "Reynolds Wrap" sponsorship?...Just a thought...Ish is doing pretty good right now, too..Way to go Ish!...

Ahhhh, but the thing is that Dee did not invent the technique, he just brought it to national attention.

One might argue...

The technique that Dee was introduced to was "tulle dippin" with a 13 foot rod. This is a far cry from what we know today as "flippin", which truly was, his invention.

As far as the national attention, yeah, Dee won a couple of big BASS events, but it was Dave Gliebe who really romped for many years, across the nation exposing the western technique of "flippen" to the fishing world.

To claim that one person is the "Best Ever"
is impossible. There won't be any doubt of
Dee's contribution to bass fishing, but the
"Best Ever", that's only in your mind. Very few
things are ever truly invented from sratch, they are mostly a combination of things that came before. Let's not forget just how many "great" fishermen out there that for one reason or another never got the break (nor wanted it) to be on the national scene. On any given day accross this great land anyone of them could be considered the "Best". There has and always will be someone coming from behind to replace the "great ones"

If I hadn't of seen it with my own eyes, I wouldn't have made the statement...I took probably over 40 trips with Dee, years back...I only fished one tournament with Dee, and watched him put 19 lbs. of fish in the boat in about 5 minutes...The guy is simply the best at what he does...He's a specialist...The statement I made is only my opinion, though..You have a right to disagree...

I agree completely....

As Cooch says, Dee evolved flippin as we know it from the prior techniques of tule dippin. And, tule dippin doesn't invlove the same mechanics as flippin...pulling the line out to the side or using a reel. It was just a line tied to the end of a 12 foot pole. In fact, sometimes it wasn't even a fishing pole. He was always looking for long rods that might work...things like the poles used for checking gas tank levels at gas stations or long rods used by telephone companies.

And, Dee gives al lthe credit in the world to the guys who taught him to tule dip so he's not stealin anyone else's thunder. But, the modern techniques of flippin is 100% Dee's invention.
